Big, big, big news! I was inspired recently to do a tad bit of work on a project that has been left untouched for months now. I've finally figured out how to revert the title screen without importing a new one, therefore hindering the game playable on most portable systems.
The change was done on the beta ROM just in case it failed. My folder is very cluttered at this point so it's hard to tell how I went about doing the hack and distributing it in the first place, but I believe it's the one I started with, and all the "upgrades" were done on separate .smc files.
Video here.
This one is much better for those who were interested in the development.
The following differences are present:
-The title now reads "EarthFound".
This is nothing more than a technical difficulty. The "F" layer that I made to replace the "B" could not be replaced. Don't worry about it.
-The naming screen is not skipped over.
This was removed because it's what led to me labeling the v1.0 ROM as unacceptable. There is no way to fix the name screen skipping anymore for certain reasons, so instead if you try to play, the names all register as blank. To stop this, I allowed use of the naming screen again. The defaults are still put down as "Don't care" names.
-Pressing and holding Y makes your party walk faster.
Another minor change that was not implemented in the final version due to technical difficulties. It's almost exactly like Mother 1+2 or EarthBound Zero's running ability, but it doesn't speed up the whole game, and unlike MOTHER 3, you can still reach running speed when somebody in your party is knocked out, disabled, or near a wall. It's useful for getting to far points in less time and also evading enemies when you're low on health. If you consider that cheating... JUST DON'T USE THE BUTTON. Even if it's tempting...
-The debug room I showcased before is opened.
One of the more important changes. When you start playing as Jeff in Winters, or when you return to Winters, you may use a secret room in the boarding house to access the debug room. Unfortunately, there is no warp point out of the room other than another town, and you can easily mess up your game trying to manage it. Save your state before entering! If a character responds incorrectly or not at all, face a diagonal direction and try again.
-Glitches are more than likely possible...
See folks, this version was not play tested. I don't even remember enough of the initial development to tell if it's finished or not, or if this has any crucial fixes in it. Just be prepared that it won't work.
When it is released, it will be posted on the side, replacing the download link for version 1.0, as an unclassified beta.

UPDATE
At this point, a remake is also likely. This time I won't be doing it alone either. Any NEW ideas, as well as ways to recycle old ideas are appreciated.
Also this is our 40th post. <3
